I’ve decided on my project – a vest in Fleece Artist Goldiehair!

Here’s an adaptation of the logo of the One Million Voices project, a grassroots organization seeking to unite the voices of moderate Israelis and Palestinians in support of immediate, ongoing and effective peace negotiations, to achieve a just peace by the end of 2008. Raise your needles! Raise your voice!
You can find more information about this encouraging project here: http://www.onemillionvoices.org/
I’ve also started blogging about the project, and plan to add my pattern for a pair of fingerless mitts to one of my blogs, [Tikkunknits][1] and [A Tikkunknitter's Miscellany][2]. Any other ideas how we might use this chart? Make ***your*** needles sing for peace!!

The last post omitted text regarding other peace knitting I’m up to, and others can certainly join.

The TikkunTree Project (www.thetikkuntree.wordpress.com) is a community art project to increase conversation about peace in the mid-east. It encourages “knittivism”, the use of craft and needlework of all kinds, as an expression of interest in peace and social justice, without regard to religious affiliation. All are invited to contribute hand-made leaves, doves, and candles – guidelines and patterns are on the website.

In addition, I’ve started a collection of Judaica knitting patterns called Patterns for Peacebuilders, to raise awareness of and funds for a variety of Israel-peacebuilding groups. There’s more information available here:

How wonderful to have found another tikkunknitter!!

Thanks for hooking up–I really like your million voices chart.
I’ve always had as my credo “If I am not for myself, who will be? And if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when? Or, to translate it into modern psychological terms, self-esteem, social conscience, and activism.

Would you consider putting yourself on the map, Tikkunknitter?

My collection of proverbs variously constitutes my ethical map (you can see the powder room door here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tikkunknits/1051803268/in/set-72157601307668811/ ), and the wisdom of Hillel you’ve quoted is an important member of the lot.
I began my TikkunKnits blog with a quote from Pirkei Avot (2:21): “You are not obligated to finish the task, neither are you free to neglect it”, but lately have set before my eyes “radical tolerance, radical compassion, radical empathy”. And then there’s the one guiding the TikkunTree Project: “knitting for peace one stitch at a time”.
    B’shalom,
    Tikkunknitter
