When I was a kid my mother said to me “My mother was racist and raised me to be less racist than she was. I’m racist and I raise you to be less racist than I am.” It worked–I have two sisters, we are all wildly different in terms of temperament, politics, taste and everything else, except for the fact that we are less racist than our mother.
Today I found the website for the Jane Addams Peace Association, which sponsors a children’s book award for books promoting peace, social justice, the world community, and gender and racial equality.
Today’s knitted object, my Not So Warm Coat from The Knit Stitch, made in yarn that I bought in Ireland–the shop sold finished sweaters, not yarn, but I fell in love with the yarn for one of the sweaters and managed to convince the shop owner to sell me a kilo! I’m still knitting things from the leftover yarn….
